How powerful is the tongue?

The Power of the Tongue: Shaping Lives with Words

Words are powerful. They can build up or tear down, inspire or discourage, heal or wound. The tongue, though small, holds the ability to influence lives in ways we often underestimate.

Words Can Create or Destroy

Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit." This means that what we say has consequences. Our words can breathe life into someone, encouraging them to achieve greatness, or they can crush their spirit, leaving them in despair.

Think about the words spoken to you in the past—both the kind and the hurtful ones. How did they shape your thoughts, emotions, and self-perception? A single uplifting comment can boost someone's confidence, while a careless insult can linger for years.

The Influence of Words in Society

Beyond personal relationships, words influence entire societies. Leaders use speeches to inspire nations, while hate speech has fueled violence and division. The media shapes public opinion with narratives, and social media spreads words like wildfire, for good or bad.

In everyday life, gossip, criticism, and negative speech create toxic environments, while words of kindness, appreciation, and encouragement foster love and unity. What we say has a ripple effect beyond what we can see.

Speak Life, Not Death

Since our words have such immense power, we must be intentional about how we use them. Here are some ways to use your tongue wisely:

1. Encourage Others: A simple compliment or word of encouragement can change someone’s day—or even their life.

2. Speak Truth with Love: Honesty is important, but how we say things matters. Speak truth in a way that uplifts rather than destroys.

3. Avoid Gossip and Negativity: Spreading negativity only breeds more of it. Be the person who spreads positivity instead.

4. Affirm Yourself: The words you say to yourself matter just as much. Speak kindly to yourself, and affirm your potential.

5. Use Words to Heal: Apologizing, expressing gratitude, and speaking with empathy can mend broken relationships.

Your words have power—more than you may realize. Be mindful of how you use them because they shape not only your world but also the world of those around you. Choose to speak life, hope, and encouragement. The right words at the right time can change everything.

What kind of words will you choose today? Let’s use our tongues to build, not to break.

Yes! Many people see it as nothing and normal. I understand we live in a country where we don't get punished by doing certain things the wrong way. Yet, in the end it comes with health issues that  backfires over time indirectly.  How do you feel each time you sit in a vehicle, probably going somewhere or traveling a distance and after buying all the assorted to eat and drink, you ended up flinging it out through the window in the middle of nowhere? Bros, sis, Come closer I want to whisper something to your ears.. it is wrong! Very very wrong. Stop it. And educate others about it as well.
